Thailand’s largest brewery company Thai Beverage Plc has placed a bidding to acquire a major stake in Marie Brizard, a subsidiary of French world-class alcoholic beverage company Belvedere, in an attempt to upgrade itself as an international brand.

The company is reported to face fierce competition from European and Israeli rivals.

Thai-Bev currently captures 74% market share in Thailand’s liquor market and 40% in the beer market.

Belverdere has filed for a bankruptcy program to the French govern in 2008, after it fail to repay its due debts for the period.

Thai-Bev cannot be reached for immediately comment on the matter.
