SET expect to see investors returning in 2nd half

The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s chairman Pakorn Malakul commented on Friday that foreign investors will be returning to the Thai market in the second half of the year, referring the ease in current political strife.

He said fundamentals and performances of the listed companies remain attractive to foreign investors.

“I think foreign investors will return to buy after they made a big lot in sale of around 74 billion baht in the first half. Local investors have begun to buy more shares of good performance companies. This shows that investors are confident in the Thai economy and the potential of the listed companies,” he said.

Mr. Pakorn has compared that, by the way, the Thai dropped lower than several markets of the region in the first half of the year, referring to the Vietnamese and the Chinese markets that are plunged 60 and 50 per cent respectively.

Mr. Pakorn noted that the foreign investors did not dump the shares prices but withdrawal was due to an anticipation of more profitable markets in the U.S. as interest rate has been expected to rise.
