Industry minister upbeats over 2008 foreign capital infusion
Industry Minister Suwit Khunkitti expressed on Tuesday that he is positive that the amount of total foreign investment in Thailand would reach the forecasted target in spite of continuing political uncertainties.
He said the investment conditions have been improved in the first quarter of the year with total investment in the industrial sector increased 9 per cent against the same period last year.
Mr. Suwit said the government’s attempt to boost investment promotion in six major countries would be a key to draw at least Bt600 billion (about US$18.7 billion) foreign investment into Thailand this year.
He said Thailand is seen as investment opportunity, supported by strong economic infrastructure and capacity of sub Mekong-region logistics hub.
In addition, it has signs free trade area (FTA) agreements with many countries.
Mr. Suwit added that he would encourage automakers, which benefited from the government incentive packages to accelerate their investment in the eco-cars projects.
