Index hits new 19-week low

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed down 12.32 points, or 1.56 per cent, in the morning session on Tuesday, hitting a fresh 19-week low of 775.27 points.
A signal from the Bank of Thailand to raise interest rates to flight inflation prompted more selling across the board, according to analysts.

Government to sue borrowers over outstanding student loan

The government plans to take legal action against as many as 400,000 borrowers regarding total outstanding loan of 4.3 billion baht, according to Student Loan Fund’s manager Thada Martin.
Mr. Thada said the lawsuit will take against those who are unwilling to enter a negotiation program.

Thai Market May Trade Higher

The Thai stock market barely ticked to the downside on Friday, but that was enough to snap a three-day winning streak. Now the Stock Exchange of Thailand is expected to resume its climb into positive territory when the market opens for business on Monday.

Thai shares close 1.45 per cent lower

The Stock Exchange of Thailand composite index fell 1.45 percent or 12.71 points to 861.93, hurt by lingering fears over US subprime mortgage crisis and heavy regional losses.
The blue-chip SET 50 index lost 10.59 points to 634.50.
Losers outnumbered gainers 268 to 68, with 112 stocks unchanged on turnover of 1.5 billion shares worth 16.3 billion [...]
