Auto sales rose 8.8% in October

Toyota Motor’s Thai unit, an official auto sales statistics reporter, reported an 8.8 percent rise in auto sale in October compared with a previous month.

Toyota’s senior managing director Wutthikorn Suriyachantananont said on Monday Thailand’s auto sale was concluded at 53, 271 units in October, up 8.8 percent from September.

The passenger car sales saw a frog jump of 23.4 percent in growth while commercial vehicle, including light pickup-truck, stayed flat at 1.5 percent.

The country’s auto sales from January through October accumulate to 419,755 units, down 17.7 percent from the same period a year ago.

Mr. Wutthikorn said the passenger car sales had seen growth for two consecutive months since September, helped by the economic recovery.

He said the auto industry is expected to continue growing for another two months to come due to automaker’s intensify campaigns towards the yearend.

Toyota remains auto sale champion in October with 23,786 units sold, followed by Isuzu and Honda with 10,614 and 9,009 units shipped respectively.
