Auto sales hike 62.6% in June
Thailand’s sales of motor vehicles concluded at 70,557 units for June, up 62.6 percent from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the industry’s official data collector Toyota Motor Thailand.
The auto sales are increased in all segments. Sales of commercial vehicles continued to increase since the beginning of the year and ended at 37,611 units, going up 52.5 percent for the month, while sales of passenger vehicles hit record of 75.7 percent increased at 32,946 units, Wutthikorn Suriyachantananont, a senior assistant managing director at Toyota Motor told the news conference.
“The June data has been hitting a record high in ten years, thanks to the market turnaround in the passenger vehicle segment,” he commented.
Mr. Wutthikorn remarked that sales of the industry’s star product light pickup truck were doing well in all the regional markets, accounting for 31,327 units of the total commercial vehicle sale or up 46.7 percent for the month comparing to the same period a year ago.
More spending on luxury products is pushed by the country’s better political stabilization and consumer confidence.
Thailand’s total vehicle sales for the first half is marked at 356,692 units, hitting a record high for first half sales since 2005, which total year sale recorded at 703,432 units.
The country’s largest dealer of pre-owned Mercedes-Benz, Benz-Amornratchada, noted that sales also increased at the used car market, especially at the premium car segment, with the company’s half year sales recorded at 135 units.
The dealer hopes to sell more than 550 units of used Mercedes-Benz in 2010, or 9 percent sales increase.
