Auto production hit record high in August

Thailand’s auto production hit record high in eight month of 84,170 units in August, pushed by the global economic recovery and increased shipments to the oversea trading partner countries, according to data release by the Federation of Thai Industries’ Automotive Industry Club (AIC).

AIC spokesperson Surapong Paisitpattanapong said the total auto production in August, however, remains 18.8 percent lower than the same month a year ago and total auto production from January through August 2009 is 51.98 percent lower than the same period in 2008.

The total production of passenger car declined 35.44 percent to 176,104 units during the period while the production of commercial trucks dropped 44.64 percent, largely due to a 44.64 percent drop in one-ton pickup production.

The domestic auto sales also thrashed 8.20 percent in August in line with slow economic activities during recession period.
